Staying at Tintswalo Atlantic: South Africa

View from Tintswalow Deck

Just outside of Cape Town, nestled between the cliffs of Chapman’s Peak and the Atlantic Ocean is the majestic boutique lodge, Tintswalo Atlantic.

The setting is what truly makes Tintswalo what it is. Located in Table Mountain National Park, the property was designed to blend in and be in harmony with nature. From the famous and beautiful Chapman’s Peak drive above you can barely see the lodge located down a long and windy road at the base of the ocean. While it feels like you’ve escaped it all when you are at Tintswalo, it’s also only a 20-minute drive from vibrant downtown Cape Town.

Staying at Tintswalo Atlantic

There are only 10 ocean side suites on the property, making it a very intimate and quiet environment to relax in. You can literally hear the waves crashing outside of every room! Each suite is named and designed after a famous island from around the world, including Zanzibar, Sicily, Lamu and Java. The bathrooms are glorious, with a bathtub and huge windows that overlook the ocean. No detail is spared in the aesthetics and comfort of the rooms.

What’s on the Menu

Tintswalo Atlantic is a great spot to have breakfast, lunch or dinner, even if you are not staying at the lodge. There is a huge spread of fruits, pastries, juices, meats and cheese for breakfast (280 rand, £16 per person). Followed by a main course which includes dishes like eggs Benedict and classic English breakfast. It’s the perfect way to start each day during your stay at Tintswalo (a morning glass of prosecco helps too!). The well known Executive chef, Guy Clark, also prepares a 3-course lunch or gourmet 5-course dinner. Meals take place in the elegant and cozy dinning room or on the picturesque deck overlooking the water and Hout Bay.

Winter Special

Tintswalo isn’t the most affordable place to stay in the Cape Town area. But they have offered special winter packages in the past (typically from May – August) for locals, which can make it slightly more affordable. The package includes accommodation for two people in one of their 10 ocean facing suites, breakfast and a 5-course dinner and wine. In 2017, this package was 7,000 rand (£420), check their website for more information.

If staying at Tintswalo is completely out of your price range, book breakfast, lunch or dinner at the lodge. Make sure to reserve in advance though, they can book up fast!
